A Scare

Has it ever happened to one of you?

Not a pregnancy scare, or an OMG I almost got in a car wreck scare. You get a call and you worry that it's The Call.

I was just leaving the YWCA after a swim, and my cell rang with a local number I didn't recognize.

"Hello?" I said.
"Hello, this is Lieutenant J." she said.

My heart skipped a beat.

"May I speak with Noah?"

They had the wrong cell number in the system: mine instead of his. She needed to talk to him about an upcoming special assignment.

But for a split second, I thought it was The Call.

OMG Erin you must have been scared. Ive gotten that call twice. Once Mr Deputy was actually hurt {though not badly} and the other was just like yours. Mr Deputy always says You know when its bad when the sheriff and a chaplain doesnt call and comes to the house.

That has happened to me before. They have called the home number and it freaked me out. I agree though that I think they come to your house if it is really bad. Plus I have told my husband and 2 of our police friends that if anything happens to him I would really like it if they could somehow at least be there so I don't have strangers telling me. Don't know if it is possible, but they both promised they would do their best.

Not LEO, but when he was a helicopter crew chief I called the flight line one day asking for him and I heard guys in the back saying "let me tell her..."

A guy got on the phone and said "Yeah... his plane went down".

Now, what they MEANT was that the plane was DOWN - as in - not flyable, but what I HEARD was the exact words those smart alecs used. WENT down.

Come to think of it, I was more pissed than scared. I figured my beloved Corps had let me down by not notifying me the way they were supposed to.

However, I've been told that if you have enough arrangements in place, you can ward off stuff like that. ;) (sorry... inside joke)

my hubby is CHP and they had him fill out paperwork as to who he would want to notify me if something were to happen. I had told him that I want someone that I know there.

This has happened to me as well. The only problem was that my husband was at home with me. My brother is also in law enforcement and they worked opposite shifts at that time and of course it made my heart jump. It was my husband's supervisor calling him into work because another officer had been drug by a vehicle and there was a chase going on and they needed more officers in the town. Needless to say both my husband and my brother were working at the same time together.
